HtW has been supporting a group of underprivileged students in private schools in Koutiala, Mali, since 2004.  A number of the children were not attending school at all until HtW volunteers encountered them.  Others were not going to be able to return to school due to the death or loss of employment of their financial caretaker.  Still others were not succeeding in school due to their special learning needs that the public school system was not meeting.

HtW meets the physical and educational needs of these children daily.  We do not just pay their school fee and walk away hoping everything works out.  HtW staff in Mali visit the households of the children to ensure that living conditions, nutritional standards, etc. are up to par.  We talk quarterly with the student's professors to make sure that a student's performance in school is satisfactory, and when applicable, additional tutoring is given.

Community organizer Charles Tunideu exposed this demographic of children in Koutiala that was not attending school because of lack of parental involvement and funds.  In honor of the deceased Charles Tunideu, HtW continues to support these children “jusqu’au bout” (till the end).
