Mali, Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world. In 2004 a four-person scouting team was sent to Mali. The assessment revealed an intense need for education and water. Alliances were formed with a local NGO: Association des Veuves et Orphelins de Sokorodji en commune VI (an association of widows and orphans) as well as with an international NGO: Youth with a Mission.

HtW has been supporting more than 20 underprivileged students in private schools in Mali since 2004. A high protein/vitamin/mineral breakfast is given to those who need supplemental nutrition. A number of the children were not attending school at all until HtW volunteers encountered them.
